Comments for Soon to be a one car familySoon to be a one car family: 03/12/07Ian and I came indepentenly to the same conclusion: we don't need two cars. With me working from home and Sean so close by and Ian often times working from home too, we only need one car. Then this morning Ferdinand's (our 1995 Civic) "check engine" light came on. Our decision was made for us. Fedinand still drives but he's now burning or leaking oil (probably needs new rings). Maintenance costs (even minor ones), plus fuel prices, plus insurance just add up to more than we want to dump into this car. So today Ian used the money that it would have cost to fix Ferdinand to buy a new mountain bike. On days when he needs to get to Berkeley, he'll ride his bike to BART and either take the bike with him on the train or hopefully soon be able to rent a locker at the BART station. Being down to one car will also free up two baby seats. We'll keep them for a while. Maybe we'll sell them or give them away. Ferdinand meanwhile will probably be sold to a local junk yard. |
