Don't Ask: 12/24/07
Fourth in the December issue of Fantasy & Science Fiction is a cautionary tale to parents, "Don't Ask" by M. Rickert. "Don't Ask" is narrated by an unnamed parent of one of the recently returned "lost boys." At first these lost boys brought to mind (quite naturally) the lost boys of Peter Pan. But there is something more sinister happening here than children refusing to grow up. These lost boys return but they are changed. "Don't Ask" is more about the parents coming to terms with what has happened than the children learning the importance of growing up. "Don't Ask" is a tale about unconditional love. Comments (0) |
