Tonight on the Titanic (Magic Tree House #16): 03/18/10
Tonight on the Titanic by Mary Pope Osborne begins a new four part series in the Magic Tree House books. Jack and Annie are called upon to collect four gifts to help Camelot in the time of war. Their first stop is the Titanic on the night the ship sank. Although Sean hadn't heard of the Titanic before reading the book he quickly figured out the book was based on actual events. We read the book with my laptop nearby so every few pages we would stop to look up facts or photographs about the Titanic. This book also for me marks the point in the series where there's a greater emphasis on the historical setting and the way in which facts are incorporated into the plot. Although the earliest of the series didn't include reader's guides, the rest of the books do. Tonight on the Titanic was a good introduction to the Titanic as a subject for my son and might be for other children as well. Other Magic Tree House books reviewed here:
