Book Blogger Hop for February 25, 2011: 02/24/11
Today's question asks if I wish I had chosen a different name for my blog. Sometimes maybe but I've had the same name and site since August 1997.
It's been a while since I've explained the reason behind the name "Puss Reboots" and my moniker "Pussreboots."
Back in 1997 when I was first setting up my site I needed a name for it. At the time Caligula cat was a spry eighteen month old. Like now she liked to keep me company while I was working on he computer. At the time I had a Macintosh clone which had a huge glowing power button right at her eye level. She quickly taught me to save often and early as she was apt to bop that button and reboot my computer.
Since I wanted to do a calico themed color scheme anyways, the pun on "Puss in Boots" popped into mind. Given her ability to reboot my computer, I named the site Puss Reboots.
Later when I converted the website into a blog and set up a Google / Blogger ID to make commenting on blogs easier, I took the space out of Puss Reboots because it's easier type it as all one word. Then I added a Gravatar account, a Twitter account and other social media accounts. It just made sense to keep the Pussreboots "brand" for the Puss Reboots site.

Hi and thanks for the follow. I like the reason behind the blog name. My cat plays with my laptop and mouse constantly...I know exactly what you mean about Puss reboots.
I think I may have to get him his own user name...you never know, could go viral...lol.
Pussreboots
There are lots of cats on twitter. He'd be in good company.
Pussreboots
Thanks. I don't think I have any Irish stories to share right now.
Niecole
I love the name!!! Puss Reboots, cute wordplay on the computer reboot and the cat reboots :)
Pussreboots
Thank you. Glad you stopped by.

Just hopping through during the blog hop! What a cute story as to how you obtained your blog name! :D I wish my story could have had more to it than my favorite jacket. Ah, well, some have stories and others are just spur-of-the moment thoughts. Happy reading!
Pussreboots
If I were doing it now, I'd probably be more off the cuff with whatever blog name I came up with.
Katie
That's a great story and a good, original and memorable name for a blog. I wish I'd been more original. I'm Katie, my blog is about books (well, mostly books) and so it's Katie's Book Blog. Wish I'd used a bit more imagination there.
Pussreboots
It's to the point. My site didn't start out as a book review site. If it had, I probably would have come up with something different.
Jael
That certainly is creative. I was wondering how that relates to books. It's more about your life than anything.
Pussreboots
It doesn't relate to books at all. Back in 1997 this site wasn't a book blog. Brands can change.
howard
What's in a name? Everything! A name is a label, a description and a promise. I'm very happy with mine - "Howard Sherman, Implementor" but it was quite a journey to get there.
Pussreboots
I'll be by later. Thanks!
Midnyte Reader
Hi there, hopping by. I like your blog name because Puss in Boots is one of my favorite stories.
Pussreboots
Thank you. It's obviously a favorite of mine too.
Lexie C.
:D Now that I wouldn't have guessed (also its awesome you named your cat Caligula). That's quite a bit of continuity though, my personal blog at Livejournal has gone through at least two dozen different names as my mood shifts.
Pussreboots
Caligula owes her name to my husband. Thanks for stopping by.
Bookworm1858
I wondered about your title; it always makes me think of Puss in Boots (and his adorable green eyes in Shrek 2)
Pussreboots
Did you hear that Puss in Boots is getting his own film?
Julie
I love the picture of your cat. Our cat, a beauty and little sweetheart looked just like yours and had lovely markings. We lost her in 2008.
Pussreboots
Thanks. You cat sounds like she was nice.
Sandra
Haha, that's a cute story! I just followed you and I hope you follow me too! I made my blog less than a week ago, so I really appreciate new followers! Thanks. (^_^)
Pussreboots
Welcome to the world of book blogging!

Pussreboots
Well now you know. Have a great weekened.
Chelle
Ha! That's a funny story. My cat likes to type. But she's not heavy enough to power off my pc. She's tiny. =)
Pussreboots
Caligula likes to type too. Back in the usenet days my sig file was "all typos are the work of my cat." She's actually a tiny cat too but that old computer had a trigger happy power button and she had a lot more energy back then.
-petit
So cute! XD The only thing that my dog makes is eat and sleep all day XDDD
Pussreboots
That's basically all Caligula does now in her dotage.
Alex
IT's a really cute story!I love it!!
I think it gave your blog a very original name and a great story to tell! :D
Pussreboots
Thank you. I'm glad you like my story.

Oh wow, that's hilarious! I will admit my own kitty has restarted my laptop a couple times, but that's only because he's walked across it and/or sat on it. Unfortunately my desk is a little small for him to join me up here, so he usually settles for the floor beside my chair, or my bed when I'm typing.
Pussreboots
I've had quite a few computer / cat related glitches over the year. I've also learned to blog with her sitting on my right leg, nestled right next to my laptop.
Jezebel Lee
Hopping over. Interesting name, by the way!
Jamie @ Bookerella
Thanks for visting my site! I loved your story about your blog name and I love it, so creative! Following you now! :)

Pussreboots
My youngest was really good at marking "all read" in Google Reader. Sigh.
BookBelle
I love this name. I must say it caught my attention in the long list of links at Crazy-for-Books. Very cute.
Pussreboots
Thank you. It seems to be unique amongst the book bloggers. Happy reading.
Cass
It's amazing that you've been blogging for SO LONG! Thanks for the story. Happy Friday (or Saturday)
Pussreboots
I've been blogging since 2004. Before that this site was mostly to highlight my web design business back when I was freelancing. It was also the gallery for my 3D art and a photography collection. The book blogging though has taken over.
Mary @ Book Swarm
Even though your site didn't start out as a review site, it definitely is one of the more memorable book review names! Love the kitty story.
Pussreboots
Thank you. It does make hooking up with bloggers for lunch easy enough. It's funny how we always introduce ourselves by our blog name and then our real names.
Juli @ Universe in Words
I love the idea behind your name!! IT's really original!!
Hope you have a great weekend,
Juli @ Universe in Words
Pussreboots
Thank you. I'm glad you like it. Hope your weekend is going well.
Yvonne
I think it's a great name for a blog!
Pussreboots
Thank you. I like it. It suits me.
Susan (Reading World)
I've been curious about your title and am glad to hear the story behind it. (Makes me wonder how long it's been since I've backed up my files.)
Pussreboots
My blog is completely backed up. If my ISP were to pack it in, I could move everything to a new server. It would take a long time as I have about a Gig of website but I could do it. Save early and often!
Pussreboots
Thank you. I like it.
Pussreboots
Mostly we've changed computers. The lap tops are much harder for her to reboot and less tempting. They don't have big glowing buttons like the old desktops did.
Rachel
Love the story behind your name, so cute. Our cat has taught us to adjust some of our habits as well.
Thanks for stopping by this weekend!
Pussreboots
Cats do that.
Sarah - Workaday Reads
That's a very cute story. And very logical while still being creative, like most great names.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Pussreboots
I think creativity needs a little structure.
