Book Blogger Hop for June 03, 2011: 06/02/11

Book Blogger HopI took last week off because I was absolutely swamped with Armchair BEA. Boy was that fun but it was also a lot of work.

This week's question asks about a favorite blog post in the last month. That answer is easy. It's my review of xxxHolic Volume 1 by CLAMP. It is a manga series that draws on ghost stories and superstitions. My son and I are working through the series together. More accurately, he's tearing through them and then I'm reading them before taking them back to the library. Getting the issues is difficult because our local library system only has the first three volumes. After that we had to start using Link+ to request the books from libraries outside our area.

Anyway, the post has ended up being my most popular review for May. I've had fun connecting with others who have read the series or are in the middle of it like I am.

So if you could have picked a favorite post from my blog for May 2011, which one would you have picked?

There's also a very good anime and film based on the manga. That's what got us into the books. Happy reading!

It is so hard to find Manga here, and works out to twice as much as regular book...

this sounds great - horror stories :)

I think the price reflects the cost of importation and translation. I'm fortunate to have access via my library and a second hand book store.

I must admit I'm not all that into Manga, so I have no clue what series you're referring to. However, I'm glad you and your son found something you can read and enjoy together and that others enjoyed your posts on the series.

It's also an anime series. We started first with watching the series on Netflix. My son and I are also reading through all of Rick Riordan's books but those take more time because they're so much longer.

Hopping through. Armchair BEA was fun but I agree it was busy.

Sounds like an interesting manga series! I love ghosts and things of that sort, I'll have to see if I can find them.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

The translations are published by Del Rey. The book stores around where I live usually have the first two or three volumes. I've been reading them through the library though.

I haven't read that manga series (yet), although I'm pretty sure we have the entire series at the library. I'm glad you were able to get yours through interlibrary loan. :)

My copies are coming either from San Jose or Sacramento so there's always a week lag between requesting a book and receiving it. But the series is well worth the wait.

I haven't read the manga, but I started the anime series a few months back.

We got started with the series before reading the manga. The anime series mixed and matched some of the stories to simplify things.

I like to read manga with my morning coffee because it tends to be short and relatively easy on a sleepy brain.
