Book Blogger Hop for July 08, 2011: 07/07/11

Book Blogger HopThis week we're supposed to talk about giveaways. Specifically we're supposed to point out a giveaway that's going on in one of our favorite blogs.

The truth is, I'm completely clueless about current blog hosted giveaways. I don't participate in them and I haven't hosted one in almost three years. Giveaways for me are the most stressful and expensive part of book blogging. I decided they were causing too much stress and were taking away from the fun of blogging.

There's only place where I enter giveaways. That place is GoodReads. I rarely win but there are far fewer strings attached to the contests. There's a hope that the winners will read and review the book. Other than that, there are no extra hoops to jump through.

GoodReads giveaways can be sorted by genre, ones that are ending soon, the most popular giveaways, the popular authors who have giveaways and the newest giveaways. You can also, with a click of a link, see which ones you've already entered.

Girl I hear ya about the added stress...but at the same time I relish in my chaos...find peace in my disorder...and calm in my tailspin. My hubs calls in my ADD/Chaos Disorder/OCD cocktail...lolz But I AM currently running a giveaway myself...but I'll tell ya I am about to do away with giving peeps extra points...the point adding is KILLING me;)

When I ran the contests on my blog, I found that I had two distinct groups visiting. There were the regulars who read and commented on my blog posts. Then there were those who only came to enter my contests. I decided it was more rewarding to concentrate on the regulars.

This is a great shout out. Goodreads is a great site for so many reasons.

Thanks for visiting!
I completely understand. I have only ever had one giveaway, but it was a bit stressful.
GoodReads sounds wonderful. Maybe I will sign up for it!
Have a lovely weekend. :)

I can definitely understand your feelings about giveaways. I just started my very first one this last week. It has been really hard to keep up with. I think I'm still going to do a few in the future, but it's definitely not going to be something I do all the time.

Amanda from Novel Addiction

Hello! Old follower, hopping through to wish you a great weekend! Also, have you ever tried the Member Giveaways on librarything? It's very similar to the goodreads giveaways - there's hope you'll do a review, but it's almost never a requirement. It's also a place to get review books, with their Early Reviewer's program.

Happy Reading!
Amanda

I rarely enter giveaways, too, mostly on Goodreads. Never won anything, yet:)

Have a great weekend!

I've won three books at GoodReads but it's been about a year since the last time I won.

I'm pretty clueless about giveaways too, but had no idea Goodreads hosted some (that's how out of the loop I am). Have a great weekend!

The GoodReads contests are easy to enter if you're ever interested in trying. Happy reading.

I salute all the brave souls that soldier on to finish a bad book. I could never do that. I never have and I can't imagine I ever will. This week's Follow Friday question is an excellent companion to last week's Book Blogger Hop question. Follow me back to my blog and read all about why I hardly ever start a bad book let alone finish one. Read both my Book Blogger Hop post last week and my Follow Friday post this week and you'll get the bigger picture of how my mind works. Don't say I didn't warn you! [grin] Thank God It's Follow Friday!

Sorry I missed you this week. I haven't had much time on my computer... too many real world commitments.

You should try your hand at some of the blog giveaways. Some aren't so stringent with the rules. I have one running now for a starbucks gc and all you have to do is comment and leave a contact email. Also, I've won a couple books from goodreads. I love that their entering is so simple. Well, have a great weekend. Hope you start getting in some contests and winning.

I have participated in giveaways in the past and hosted a bunch. It's just not part of blogging that I like. Usually the giveaways are for brand new books of authors or series I've never heard of and I frankly don't have the space for extra books.

Oh, goodreads! Best place ever!! And very easy to enter giveaways, and some of them are international!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, enjoy your weekend!

It's a regular stop for me. I pretty much just keep a tab open to the site.

i've not done one in ages either! i'm really selective about giveaways i join too, and i've never tried good reads though i do join in on the librarything early bird reviewers sometimes.

I'm not a member of LibraryThing. I feel like I've maxed out on how many book related sites I can paricipate on a regular basis.
