On My Wishlist: October 08, 2011: 10/08/11

On My WishlistI've been so busy with school and the new kitten, I've hardly had any time to read. The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff is inching along at maybe ten pages a week. Ditto for The Mermaid's Mirror by L. K. Madigan. I'm mostly reading Pirate King by Laurie R. King and The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan.

I plan to start Schenectady by Don Rittner and The Farming of Bones soon.

My wishlist is at 947 books, up 3 books from last week.

Upcoming wishlist reads include (they are in my hands waiting to be read):

  • Schenectady by Don Rittner
  • The Farming of Bones by Edwidge Danticat
  • Sarah Court by Craig Davidson
  • Flood and Fire by Emily Diamand
  • The Book of Tomorrow by Cecilia Ahern
  • Elsie's Bird by Jane Yolen
  • xxxHolic Volume 17 by CLAMP
  • Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer
  • Of all the stupid things by Alexandra Diaz
  • Say hello to Zorro! Carter Goodrich
  • The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
  • How to Party with a Killer Vampire by Penny Warner

The Featured Wish for October 08, 2010:

cover artMiss Lina's Ballerinas and the Prince by Grace Maccarone and illustrated by Christine Davenier

"Miss Lina’s ballerinas have all learned how to dance as a group. But now Miss Lina has a new surprise for them – a boy will be joining their class and performing in their end-of-year show.

"The girls have grand visions of dancing their first pas de deux with a prince. But when he finds himself surrounded by so much pink and so many girls, he turns quite shy, and dances his way out the door!"

I heard about this book on the Picture Books and Pirouettes blog. My daughter loves the first book, Miss Lina's Ballerinas which is done in the style of Madeline. I'm wondering if this sequel will be done in the style of Madeline and the Bad Hat.

Lol. So much pick, so many girls and one boy. I can imagine how he would be feeling. I've something different in my wishlit today.

It is unfortunately an accurate portrayal of the typical child's dance class. But I suspect it will be in the style of Madeline and the Bad Hat where the Ambassador's son starts palling around with Miss Klaval's girls.

Jennifer (An Abundance of Books)

How are you liking THE THRONE OF FIRE? I haven't had a chance to start it yet but one of my moms recently read it to her kids and she said it was a lot more action oriented this time around.

Throne of Fire is good but complex. I'm only able to read a chapter or two a night.

That picture book sounds adorable. I teach dance to little kids so this would be a great book I could recommend to them.

Since you're a dance teacher, I recommend you check out the blog where I heard about the book. It's called "Picture Books and Pirouettes" and they review nothing but dance books!

haha - can just imagine the excitement of knowing a BOY is joining - still stereotyped unfortunately! Be interesting to see how it ends. Shaz @Jera's Jamboree

In my daugther's age range, there's like one boy for every ten girls. The percentage seems to go up as the children age. I don't know if it's from more boys joining at an older age or more girls dropping out.
