What Are You Reading: October 24, 2011: 10/23/11Thirteen of the eighteen books last week were picture books. I'm reading with my children at night and they are reading to me in the car. Also there was a day at the internship where the cataloging application was going really slowly so I had time to kill. The only thing I had on hand were the books I'd cataloged. So I read some of them. I finished two review books, Enter, Night about vampires in rural Canada and The Train about refugees fleeing the German occupation at the start of WWII. My current review book is Why Read Moby-Dick? by Nathaniel Philbrick. I have actually read Moby Dick and loved it. I want to see what Philbrick has to say about the book — what reasons does he give. I still haven't finished How to Party with a Killer Vampire by Penny Warner but I am enjoying it. I hope to finish it and The Wailing Wind by Tony Hillerman. I finished and loved Worldshaker by Richard Harland but I had to send back two other library books unread. They are back on my wishlist. Finished Last Week:

Comment #1: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 02:04:08 Moby Dick is another classic that I never really got into, it will be interesting to see why I should via your review Comment #2: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 22:38:20 Pussreboots I've read and loved Moby Dick but I want to see how my reactions to the book match up with Philbrick's. Comment #4: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 22:45:30 Pussreboots It is. Even for me. Wow! Comment #5: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 03:15:45 I started to read Adventures of Cat-Whiskered Girl to a library class, but I think they were a bit too immature for it at the time. I would like to eventually try reading it again, for myself - because it seemed pretty quirky. I always forget to list children's books, and I tend to read quite a few of them. Then again, we do tend to re-read a lot of books with the granddaughter. She loves repeats - right now she's really into all the Skippyjohn Jones books. Comment #6: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 22:46:31 Pussreboots I think Pinkwater's trilogy requires a certain type of reader. They require esoteric knowledge of mythology, Hollywood history, obscure films and classics. Although the books are written at a grade 5 reading level, I think many of the references will go over a 5th grader's head. Thinking of my own reading history, I wouldn't have been ready to truly appreciate these books until 8th or 9th grade. Comment #7: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 09:29:25 Interesting...there's a book on your list called Miles to Go. One of the books I wrote has that title! I like how you read to your children at every opportunity. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog. Comment #8: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 23:11:32 Pussreboots I noticed your book when I was searching for Miles to Go on GoodReads. Miles to Go is a popular book title. Lots of different authors have used it. Nowadays my children read to me as much as I read to them. I only list our first read of a book. If I listed all the rereads my lists would go well past two or three dozen a week. Comment #9: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 10:07:18 Sounds like a good week of reading! I should start listing out all the books I read with my kids too. I usually just write short reviews of a couple each week, but it would be fun to keep track of all the books we read. Comment #10: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 23:11:32 Pussreboots I only list the books the first time we read them. We also do a lot of re-reads. The numbers are creeping up in part because I'm also listening to my children read. Comment #11: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 10:15:43 Looks like you had a great week! Comment #12: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 23:20:01 Pussreboots Thank you! Comment #13: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 12:42:32 Great week!!! I love Penny Warner's books!! Comment #14: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 23:21:24 Pussreboots Thank you. I love her books too. Comment #15: Monday, October, 24, 2011 at 21:35:32 Wow!! You did read a lot! Glad to see that you knocked off all those books! Have a good reading week. Comment #16: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 23:22:13 Pussreboots I had a lot of down time while the computer crunched away on the cataloging I'd done. Plus my children have been reading to me. Comment #18: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 23:24:30 Pussreboots Yes it certainly was. Comment #19: Wednesday, October, 26, 2011 at 00:02:43 HI! I always love to check your extensive lists to see if I know any of the books/authors. I recognize three authors this week. :-) Have a great reading week. Comment #20: Monday, October 31, 2011 at 21:01:00 Pussreboots You should check this week's post. I hardly got any reading done. Thanks for stopping by. |
