What Are You Reading: April 30, 2012: 04/29/12

What Are You Reading?

I'm about half way done with the remaining term paper. As my mind is crammed up with the paper, I've found myself being pickier about what I read. That's reflected in the three unfinished books.

My favorite read last week was The Fifteenth Pelican by Tere Rios. It was the inspiration for The Flying Nun TV show. A close runner up for best read, is Pie by Sarah Weeks.

I haven't finished Watchlist: A Serial Thriller edited by Jeffery Deaver but I am getting close. I'm about 3/4 of the way through. I plan to finish it this week. I would also like to finish Deadly Décisions by Kathy Reichs.

What about you?

Did Not Finish:

  1. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith (personal collection)
  2. Firmin: Adventures of a Metropolitan Lowlife by Sam Savage (library book)
  3. Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters (library book)

Finished:

  1. Amped: A Novel by Daniel H. Wilson (review copy)
  2. Binky the Space Cat by Ashley Spires (library book)
  3. The Fifteenth Pelican by Tere Rios (library book)
  4. The Frightened Man by Kenneth M. Cameron (library book)
  5. The Lost Cities: A Drift House Voyage by Dale Peck (personal collection)
  6. Pie by Sarah Weeks (library book)
  7. The Pirate's Daughter by Margaret Cezair-Thompson (library book)
  8. Street Music: City Poems by Arnold Adoff (library book)
  9. To Dance: A Ballerina's Graphic Novel by Siena Cherson Siegel (library book)

Currently Reading:

  1. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami (personal collection)
  2. Bride of the Rat God by Barbara Hambly (review copy)
  3. The Cereal Murders (audio) by Diane Mott Davidson (personal collection)
  4. Deadly Décisions by Kathy Reichs (personal collection)
  5. The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson (personal collection)
  6. Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos (personal collection)

Beth

I also didn't like the Abraham Lincoln book, and now I feel a bit vindicated when I see someone else reject it.

I have to check out Pie.

You should never feel bad about not liking a book. Pie, though is delightful. I hope you like it too.

Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out

I used to love The Flying Nun in television, a book based on the series could be interesting

Have fun reading!

The book inspired the series. That said, the series was a very good adaptation of the book.

I have read the Ben January series by Hambly and loved her. She seems like a very diverse writer! 1Q84 seems so interesting! I will have to check out your review!

I've only read the first chapter of the Hambly book, so I don't have any opinion yet on it. Don't hold your breath for 1Q84 as I'm only on page 300!

I heard Sarah Weeks talk about Pie. She was a speaker at a conference I attended. It was before the book came out. I sort of forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me that I wanted to read that book someday. Have a wonderful week!

I think Sarah Weeks also made a blog post about Pie around the time it first came out. Anyway... I forgot about wanting to read the book too until I saw a copy on display at the library. It was a delightful book.

Sheila (Book Journey)

I could not get into Abraham as a Vampire Killer...LOL, hope you did ok with it ;)

I got about 1/3 of the way through Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter before I grew tired of the way it was written. I skipped to the last fifty pages and skimmed them. When it was obvious that the writing style didn't improve or settle down, I decided I was done.

I just got Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on audio - so I hope I have better luck with it ... now I'm a little scared to even start it :-)

You might do better with it as audio because you won't have to look at the annoying formating!

I enjoyed Love Walked In and plan to read this author's other work soon.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and have a great week.

I'm only on the second chapter of Love Walked In but I am enjoying it.

Uh oh! Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter!! What did you think?? What are YOU reading??

Comment #16: Monday, April 30, 2012 at 13:45:39

Pussreboots

I didn't finish it. I've decided I'm bored with these mashups. I got even less far in Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.

Allison

How was the Abraham Lincoln book? Was it not worth finishing??

Comment #18: Monday, April 30, 2012 at 13:46:21

Pussreboots

I didn't finish it. I'm just not into the mashups. The last two I tried didn't work for me.

I read the first book in Diane Mott Davidson's series, but I really need to get back to it. The first one was really good. Have a great week!

I am completely addicted to Davidson's series. I've been listening to them all on audio.

I've heard good things about Marisa de los Santos, but I haven't read any of her books yet. I hope you enjoy Love Walked In!

I'm not sure what to think yet of Love Walked In. It's told in alternating voices. One of the characters I adore and the other one is just so dull.

Bonnie

Most of these titles are new to me - I'm going to have to look them up. I haven't read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter but I have been curious to try some of the other books in that 'series' ... not sure how much I would enjoy them though!

Thanks for stopping by my blog this week! :D

I've decided I'm done with the mashups.
