Comments for A Dance for EmiliaA Dance for Emilia: 02/26/14
A Dance for Emilia by Peter S. Beagle is a sentimental ghost story. An actor in California is called home with the news of the death of a long time friend, named Sam. The trip back east brings him in contact with a cat. Through a combination of flashbacks and other fantasy elements, we learn more about Sam's life. We also get a plot similar to that of the cat's in the anime, Clannad. For a story about unfinished business being given a chance to be completed in the body of a cat, I prefer the Clannad story arc. A Dance for Emilia is rather ponderous quite a feat for such a slender volume. It requires slow, contemplative reading. It's not a book to be rushed through. It could work for a book club discussion for a group looking for a somewhat older book. Three stars
