It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (December 04): 12/04/17

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (December 04)
Hosted by Kathryn of Book Date.

The second Thanksgiving with our So. Cal. relatives was so much fun! It was also the first time in fifteen years that we had room for houses guests to stay the night.

I finished Nanowrimo a couple days early. My novel, plot-wise, is only about a quarter finished. I will keep going with it either on my own over the next few months. If I don't, I'll pick up part two next November.

Cybils round one is wrapping up. We're starting to think about what day we're going to meet to make our short list. It's been a good year of reading.

Now that the new year is rapidly approaching, I've started planning out my reading for 2018. Books I'm currently excited about include:

  • Black Hammer, Volume 2: The Event by Jeff Lemire
  • Now That You Mention It by Kristan Higgins
  • The Terrible Two Go Wild by Mac Barnet and Jory John
  • Love Hate and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed
  • Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann
  • Wiskerella by Ursula Vernon
  • American Panda by Gloria Chao
  • The Grave's a Fine and Private Place by Alan Bradley
  • Dragon Overnight by Sarah Mlynowski et. al
  • The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton
  • Voltron, Volume 2: The Pilgrimage by Tim Hendrick
  • Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman
  • The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
  • The Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro
  • Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles
  • Bat and the Waiting Game by Elana K. Arnold
  • Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente
  • Cave of Bones by Anne Hillerman
  • Paper Girls, Volume 4 by Brian K. Vaughan
  • The Orphan Band of Springdale by Anne Nesbet
  • Love & Fargo by Melissa de la Cruz

What I read:

You've just reminded me to go look up Melissa de la Cruz - I was listening to her on a podcast on Happier in Hollywood just yesterday.

Good luck with the Cybils!

Thanks. We're almost done with round one.

How great to be able to house guests! I've only had one house in all these years in which I could do that. Now I can have only a couple of guests at a time. LOL.

Enjoy those books. They look tempting. The Kristan Higgins book is one I've been noticing. Here are my weekly updates.

Their visit was a huge success. They're coming back for a week for New Years.

Tess of the Road and 49 other review book are already on my stack for 2018 reading. It looks like it should be a great year. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

No review books here. My list is of ones I'm planning to buy or borrow from the library.

Glad NaNo went well, and your second Thanksgiving too. Hard to believe it's December already...

Kitty Cornered looks fun, as does Book Clubbed.

Nanowrimo and second Thanksgiving were both fun. I've found Book Clubbed the more entertaining of the two books.

How fun to be planning ahead!

The title Murder is Bad Manners gave me a chuckle! I'm going to have to look for that one. :)

The U.S. edition (aka Murder is Bad Manners) has some big flaws. If you can, find the original.

You certainly have had a successful end-of-the-year, what with completing NaNoWriMo, reading the Cybils, and your regular reading!

I'm looking forward to getting back reading for fun and for research.

Katie @ Read-at-Home Mom

I enjoyed Patina, though not quite as much as Ghost, which was a hard book to top. I'll be curious to see what you think! I also have a Lorna Barrett book sitting on my nightstand that I keep picking up and putting down without getting through the first chapter. I wonder if I should try it on audio before giving up. She seems like an author whose books I should like. My reading week is here.

Lorna Barrett writes some very unlikable characters. I'm not sure I could stand them in print. However the two different narrators who have worked on the series have made these characters believable and relatable, even if they still aren't particularly likable.

Wow, I'm so impressed that you're already planning for 2018! And so many good books to look forward to!

I still have an entire TBR bookcase waiting for me, so I have plenty to choose from.

Enjoy your books this week -

Sue

The planning ahead is also to help me budget. I don't want to overbuy. One new book is a reasonable amount for me.
