It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (December 03): 12/03/18

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?
Hosted by Kathryn of Book Date.

Save for reading a few books with closer scrutiny, I'm basically done with the Cybils. The group I'm in will be meeting online in a couple of weeks. All of the short lists will be announced on January 1st. The other Cybils news is that it's now officially a nonprofit organization!

Most of this week's reads were ones for fun. There were some that had run out of renewals at the library.

I finished the cockatoo painting. Now I'm about 2/3 through the last of my avian portraits for 2018: a hen that lives at Ardenwood Farm.

Completed cockatoo painting.

Hen painting, WIP.

What I read:

  • The Misfits Club by Kieran Mark Crowley
  • Fusion for Beginners and Experts by Rebecca Sugar
  • The Game Masters of Garden Place by Denis Markell
  • Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire
  • The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall; personal collection
  • Potions & Parameters by Gene Luen Yang

What I'm reading:

  • The Bigfoot Files by Linday Eager; personal collection
  • Very Rich by Polly Horvath
  • Everlasting Nora by Marie Miranda Cruz; personal collection
  • Awkward> by Svetlana Chmakova

Up Soon:

  • The Third Mushroom by Jennifer L. Holm; personal collection
  • The Lotterys More or Less by Emma Donoghue; personal collection
  • Fire Storm by Andy Lane; library book
  • Secret sisters of the salty sea by Lynne Rae Perkins; library book

Tempting books. I like the look of the Kate Carlisle cozy. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

There are a bunch of books in Carlisle's series. The first in the series is Homicide in Hardcover.

Beneath the Sugar Sky drew my attention. I'll look out for your review.

I enjoyed the book thoroughly. Have you read the first two? The series starts with Every Heart a Doorway

I love the hen! Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I need to read Elementary, She Read since I've read everything else in this series (the online book group I'm in was already on the second book by the time I joined). They're great books.

    My roundup!

Thanks! She's been fun to paint. I'll be reading the second book in the series soon.

I've decided to devote the first two weeks in December to fun books. The last two weeks will see me beginning my January review books. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I have about thirty more books I need to evaluate for the Cybils before I can read for fun again.

Nice now to have all your Cybils reading finished. I love the painting of the hen, amazing and so gorgeous.

Not finished but nearly so. Thanks. I'm having fun painting the hen.

All of your books look good. I have to start reading the Vicki Delaney and Kate Carlisle series. Both sound great. Hope you have a great week!

You'll have a lot more books to get through in Carlisle's series. There are only four in the Delaney one.

I love some of those covers- especially The Gamemasters of Garden Place!

Gamemasters was fun. It's built on the premise that Gary Gygax was an actual wizard.

Are you on IG? traceyltims paints many roosters and clams and shrimp on newspapers and such. Your work here remindeds me of hers.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

Congrats on finishing the Cybils reading! I can’t wait to start my Cybils reading. I love the chicken painting. My neighbor has real chickens, and I want some, but we have so many coyotes and hawks around here that my neighbor’s chickens keep getting killed. I’d probably be devastated if mine got eaten. Have a great week!

We have coyotes, hawks, mountain lions, bob cats, and domestic cats but people still keep chickens around here. If my yard weren't so steep, I'd be tempted to keep some.

Your paintings look great - I love the little hen! I read the first Penderwicks over the summer and enjoyed it - I will have to pick the series back up.

    Have a great week!

I plan to re-read the fourth Penderwicks book before moving onto the most recent one. I originally started with book four because of a previous Cybils year. It was hard to follow out of context.
