Star-Crossed Egg Tarts: 02/17/24
Star-Crossed Egg Tarts by Jennifer J. Chow and Catherine Ho (Narrator) (2025) is the second book in the Magical Fortune Cookie mystery series. Felicity Jin and Kelvin Love are working a wedding as dessert caterer and florist. One of the attendants is late for the ceremony and is later found dead near the egg tarts Felicity has laid out. With the murder weapon being one of Kelvin's tools, he's a person of interest. So Felicity and he are once again working to solve a murder. To complicate things further, Felicity's long lost father has ties to the wedding party. So often when a wedding is involved as the scene of a murder, the entire wedding party is from out of town. Their impending departure provides a countdown for the sleuth. This time, though, only half the party were from out of town and that lessened the need for Felicity and Kelvin to do a speed run. It also made the entire wedding scenario seem more believable. The mystery itself was pretty easy to solve. It's a straightforward puzzle for an attentive reader. Although Felicity has magic to help her sort through the evidence nothing is kept from the reader. The magic subplot is better explained in this volume and there are changes in relationships that will be addressed I hope in future books. Five stars Comments (0) |
