Good Night, Little Bear: 03/22/24
Good Night, Little Bear by Patricia M. Scarry and Richard Scarry (Illustrator) (1961) was another childhood favorite of mine. I think my copy was part of Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever!. It's Little Bear's bedtime but Father Bear decides to have some last minute fun when his child tries to hide. The story is set in the minutes before bedtime. Father Bear carries Little Bear to his room. Little Bear, not ready for bed, hides on his father's back, presumably out of site. Father Bear begins an exaggerated search for his child everywhere, even roping Mother Bear into things. As a child I fully believed that Little Bear had found the best hiding spot ever. I loved how clever he was and was devastated when he was finally spotted in the mirror. As an adult I can see that Father and Mother weren't tricked at all but are willing to play along. What's a few more minutes of playtime before bed? I was reminded of the book by a post on pipesinkidlit on Instagram. Five stars Comments (0) |
