Wash Day with Mama: 03/01/25
Wash Day with Mama by Monica Mikai (2025) is a picture book about a mother and daughter's Sunday hair washing ritual. It goes through the entire process showing how much time is needed to properly care for coiled hair. Each step is an act of love and bonding for these two. A young child who is learning to sit through a long self care routine will see themselves in this book. Although I'm white I have thin, wavy hair and had to sit through similar hours long session with my grandmother. She, though white, had hair that needed this type of care routine. My mother who doesn't have hair like that didn't know how to take care of my hair and didn't have the patience for it. The illustrations, also done by the author, are warm and inviting. They show the strong family bond mother and daughter have. They show each step in an easy to visually read fashion in case a parent or child is looking for tips or wants to try some of the recipes that are included. Five stars Comments (0) |
