At the Drop of a Hat

At the Drop of a Hat by Jenn McKinlay and Karyn O'Bryant (Narrator) is the third book in the Hat Shop mystery series. Vivian has been hired to restore one of her grandmother's hats for an upcoming wedding. Scarlett when she's checking in on the new client, finds her and her boss's body after he fell off the office's roof.

Vivian and Scarlett are utterly convinced their client isn't guilty despite mounting evidence. With Harrison and Alistair's reluctant help, the women decide to investigate the boss's death.

The mystery itself wasn't that hard to solve. Maybe I just read too many to see how things will play out. As with other Jenn McKinlay books early on in a series, we have relationship dramas as filler. Clearly Harrison and Scarlett have chemistry and we just have to sit through however many books equal her year of being relationship free.

The disappointing bit of this book is the cliffhanger. Through these three books Viv has been absolutely closed lipped about her interest in having a love life or even if she has someone. At the very end of this book the reason is revealed and it's just dumb. It's a rehash of the Angela plot from Bones (season 3).

The next book in the series is Copy Cap Murder (2016)
