The Crime That Binds: 04/29/25
The Crime That Binds by Laurie Cass and Erin Bennett (Narrator) (2022) is the tenth book in the Bookmobile Cat mystery series. Ryan Anderson's driver's license is found at a bank robbery and when one of Minnie's bookmobile summer regulars is murdered, Ryan is accused, except he's MIA. Chilson is ready to convict Ryan before he can even be found. This is one of those mysteries that is set up in the early chapters' gossip. I happened to be paying attention so when the red herrings started to show up they were pretty obvious. Thankfully Minnie's an astute listener and isn't easily fooled by supposition. Besides the down state bank robbery, there's the matter of a missing Conti statue. Apparently they're highly sought, hard to find, and very expensive. The murder victim was part of a Conti statue discussion. With a missing statue being at the core of the murder mystery, one can't help but think of The Maltese Falcon. I wish more discussion had been put into describing these works of art and their fictional creator. The next book in the series is A Troubling Tail (2023) Four stars Comments (0) |
