Bait and Swiss

Bait and Swiss by Korina Moss (2025) is the sixth book in the Cheese Shop mystery shop. Willa's life is turned upside down when her ex-fiancé and ex-BFF show up in town for the revamping of the Rise and Shine Bakery. It's now Hope's Cakery and it's hosting a pop-up chocolate shop.

Willa, not being a fan of chocolate (and certainly traumatized by it) is tasked with delivering a box of chocolates to the editor of the town paper. When he's not in the office, she foolishly leaves the box with the upstart new reporter and sticks a threatening note for the editor inside.

If Willa had any situational awareness she would have realized the reporter was going to eat all the chocolates. She also should have realized her note sounded a lot more ominous than she meant. So when the reporter ends up dead, Willa's once again in hot water.

So the question then is, who poisoned the chocolates and who was the intended victim? There's a secondary concern over how many and which chocolates were poisoned.

This mystery is tightly plotted with just the right balance of clues and herrings. There aren't many potential murderers or that many motives. It's still complex enough to need some digging both by the reader and by Willa.

Five stars
