Bond and Book: The Long, Long Good-Bye of "The Last Bookstore": 05/30/25
Bond and Book: The Devotion of "The Surgery Room" by Mizuki Nomura (2021) is the first book in the Bond and Book duology. I reviewed the second book back in 2022. Musubu Enoki is a high schooler who can hear the voices of books. He is also for reasons, magically tied to one particular book who is incredibly jealous of his work to help other volumes. Each chapter is really more of a stand alone short story of how Mutsubu helps a book or helps someone affected by a book. The stories vary in length and tone from rather light-hearted to dark and tense. My favorite of the stories is the first one which involves a well-read but now abandoned copy of Pippi Longstocking. Essentially this opening tale is a missing persons mystery. Who does the book remember and where have they gone? My second favorite is a darker one involving a man seemingly possessed by the dark thoughts of a particular book. In this case, the mystery is the book's identity. What is it and why is it affecting him in such a way? Four stars Comments (0) |
