Litany for a Broken World: 05/27/25
Litany for a Broken World by L.J. Cohen (2025) is the start of Entangled Realities series. In a Boston homeless encampment travelers through the multiverse converge. The events are told from multiple points of view, including a telepathic dog. It takes a while for the individual threads to come together. Characters involved are an estranged married couple, their daughter (who by law shouldn't exist), a man who wants to stop the family, a fortune teller who can see future possibilities, his dog, and a Boston doctor who can see portals to the multiverse but has convinced herself that she can't. The book is short and heavy on mood and philosophy. What sorts of sacrifices will one make for loved ones? What is one's role in repairing / protecting the world? How do you warn of potential tragedies when people only want good news? Would you still love someone if they appeared to change completely? There's an afterword that explains the inspirations for this first book. I suggest that you read it because it does help to contextualize the different threads and themes. Four stars Comments (0) |
