A Murderous Misconception: 05/13/25

A Murderous Misconception

A Murderous Misconception by Lorraine Bartlett, Gayle Leeson and Jorjeana Marie (Narrator) (2020) is the seventh book in the Victoria Square mystery series. Three years ago I had run out of audiobooks in this series. I was pleasantly surprised to see book seven has since been recorded.

Katie Bonner tosses her cookies after seeing a social media post by Erikka, Andy's assistant manager with a sonogram that she claims is his baby. Katie and Andy have been dating. When he confirms that he has slept with her she's devastated and calls off their relationship, deciding to move into her new apartment on an accelerated schedule.

Of course, Erikka ends up being this volume's murder victim. And of course things come to light involving a lot of lying and a lot of sexual partners. Figuring out which one murdered her was easy for this reader. Maybe because I've read so many of this author's books that I recognized a favorite plot twist.

I actually don't mind the easy to solve mystery. What pisses me off about this book is Andy. Or rather, I'm tired at how many men in this particular authors books betray the trust of the main character. It doesn't matter which one, they all end up jilted, abused, or otherwise made to feel miserable by the men closest to them.

The next book is Dead Man's Hand (2021).
