Fatal Reservations

Fatal Reservations by Lucy Burdette and Laura Jennings (Narrator) (2015) is the sixth book in the Key West Food Critic mystery series. A popular street performer has been murdered and a friend of Lorenzo is missing. Meanwhile, Haley is trying to write a review for the newest restaurant, set up on a ship mored in the harbor.

Lorenzo, who does tarot readings as part of the daily Sunset Celebration, is accused of murdering Bart Frontgate, the flaming for juggler. A bloody fork was found among Lorenzo's things and now he's in hiding.

Meanwhile, there's For Goodness Sake, a Japanese inspired restaurant that is skirting regulations by being built on a ship. From it's opening night something seems iffy about the place.

I have to say that I didn't manage to put together the puzzle pieces for this mystery. How things played out took me by surprise. That said, I think more could have been done with the character building of the prime suspects and the actual murderer. I don't think the stakes were established well enough to understand the motive or the timing of events.

The next book in the series is Killer Take Out (2016).

Four stars
